Sauvignon Blanc needs a cool climate with a lot of sun shine, Marlborough has both attributes in spades. This Sauvignon Blanc from Black Cottage is expressive with a nose full of fresh yellow grapefruit, apricot, cucumber, gooseberry, and tomato leaf. The lively palate is packed full of citrus, stone fruits, and white pepper. A delicious line of salinity with a refreshingly dry finish completes this harmonious wine.

Sanna Stander is the winemaker and guru behind the balanced and refreshing wines of Black Cottage. Originally from South Africa, she has made wine on three different continents and, combined with the worldwide experience of owner David Clouston, they bring a lot of experience to this exciting winery. They’ve created a Sauvignon Blanc which brings balance, minerality, and drinkability to the bountiful fruit.
Rosé

Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Syrah, Riesling

Predominately Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, this Rosé is Provencal in color, with a slight copper hue. A fresh and stylish New Zealand Rosé, full of crushed strawberries, orange blossom, watermelon rind, with a salty mineral core. Elegant and well-balanced, this wine shows undertones of tangelo, oyster shell, subtle spice, and macadamia nut. A dry finish with a pinch of salt.

Owner David Clouston spent a lot of time in southern France and Corsica making Rosé wines in the French style. This authentic New Zealand style is a dry, pink wine that showcases the cool climate and ocean air of Cloudy Bay and the Marlborough wine growing region. This is a fun blend from certified sustainable vineyards that stands out from the crowd with an individuality you will come to expect from the Black Cottage wines.
Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir

The gently rolling hills of the Southern Valleys in Marlborough offer up a Pinot Noir of distinction. The savory components highlight perfectly the ripe, crunchy dark red fruits. The aromas express black cherry and pomegranate, with forest floor, violet, and chai spice. Partial whole cluster fruit highlights the minerality at the core with pink peppercorn and crushed rock.

Sourced primarily from a single estate vineyard in the Southern Valleys of Marlborough comes this vibrant Pinot Noir made with partial whole cluster. The hillside vineyard generates more ripeness in this cool valley, and 3-6 months in French oak barrels cultivates nuance in the delicate nature of the fruit. David’s experiences working in prestigious wineries in Willamette, California, and France help guide his team to fine turn these flavors.
“Saint Maur” Sauvignon Blanc

100% Sauvignon Blanc

Aromas of almond, lemon balm, thyme, green olive, and flint. The palate shows a rich texture with toasted almond and bright citrus. The finish is complex with sapidity, a touch of brioche, and a strong backbone of fresh acidity to balance the weight.

A 5.6-hectare vineyard from the best micro-climate in the Southern Valleys of Marlborough. The best fruit is chosen from the vineyard to make this 200-case production. Native yeast fermentation, aged 14 months on the lees in a combination of amphora clay, and concrete egg, sulfur only added at bottling.
“The Spring” Chardonnay
Wairau Valley

100% Chardonnay

Aromas of brioche, roasted peach, smoked cashew, pine nut, and rock melon. The barrel aging adds depth to a full-bodied palate with rich Meyer lemon and a stoney minerality. Silky-smooth, the finish is complex and surprisingly delicate.

A single hectare vineyard from the best micro-climate on gravel soils with old-vine (30+) Chardonnay from the Gingin Clone. This unique clone gives the wine great freshness and intensity. Native yeast fermentation, aged for 14 months on the lees in seasoned French oak barriques and casks, sulfur only added at bottling.
“Brookby Hill” Pinot Noir

100% Pinot Noir

Perfectly ripened raspberry, blueberry, and cherry fruits. This cool-climate Pinot has just the right balance of subtle earthy notes to keep things interesting. A finely structured palate with soft tannins, gives way to an ethereal finish with chalky minerality and great freshness.

A single vineyard shaped like an amphitheater creating its own micro-climate with a total of 7 hectares. Organically grown with pending certification from BioGro. Native yeast fermentation, the wine was aged for 14 months in French oak barriques and casks, sulfur only added at bottling. The wine was then aged in bottle for a further 16 months before release.
