F/R – FRANÇOISE ROUMIEUX
Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rhône Valley

Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc
Châteauneuf-du-Pape

40% Grenache, 30% Clairette, 30% Roussane (different blend by vintage)

This white wine is pure pleasure and embodies the way this natural landscape in the Southern Rhone valley feels. With the frequent winds, typical of this area, the air feels alive and aromatized with fresh herbs. The white wine from Françoise is expressive with layered aromatics of fresh flowers, honeycomb, apricot, and tropical fruits. The texture is full, round, and silky and the finish is relaxed yet lively and lingering.

Points of Interest

From a region dominated by red grapes, well-made white wines from Chateauneuf-du-Pape are a rare treasure. Françoise is head winemaker and decision maker at the esteemed Mayard family estate (now Clos du Calvaire) and we are excited to share with you a small production made under her own name, the F/R series. ONLY 250 cases produced from a single vineyard called “Les Galimardes”.
Côtes du Rhône
Cótes du Rhone AOC

60% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah (different blend by vintage)

When you open a bottle of the Côtes du Rhône, what stands out for this classic category is the depth of savory complexity and dark powerful fruit. From the usual suspects, Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, the compelling aromatics and flavors immediately grab your attention and signal, this is a special wine. Françoise buys a small amount of fruit from friends who have the same vision for sustainable/organic farming that she does.

Points of Interest

With more than 20 years as winemaker, Françoise Roumieux is the 5th generation at the prestigious Mayard family estate, boasting some very old vines in Châteuneuf-du-pape. This micro-negociant project, under her own name, was started in 2016, utilizing grapes from friends and neighbors who share her passion for respectful environmental farming practices. With native yeast fermentation and longer than average aging, it is an incredible value from a top producer.
“Le Hurlevent”
Châteauneuf-du-Pape

75% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Cinsault (different blend by vintage)

Enough color, fruit, and alcohol to satisfy California wine lovers, this wine also has an earthy structure indicative of the Southern Rhône Valley. Wild berry fruits, raspberry and blackberry, lead with a strong undertone of grilled herbs, pepper, and smoked meat. The palate is lush and full without being heavy and the finish lingers with youthful energy.

Points of Interest

The family estate is now certified organic and while this small amount of purchased fruit isn’t certified, Françoise goes out of her way to source from producers in the area who have the same high standards for their vineyards as she does. The “Hurlevent” is a classic blend aged in concrete vats to retain the freshness and lively character of the ripe fruits. Native yeast fermentation helps maintain the integrity of the terroir and natural character of the region.
