Melon de Bourgogne (Melon B)

The grape that reigns supreme in the Muscadet region is Melon de Bourgogne. This is 100% Melon B, refined in the Champagne method with great attention to detail, with only a few thousand bottles produced. A sparkling wine with fine and abundant effervescence, subtle aromas of white flowers, white peach, and citrus. A delicate balance on the palate with a minerality and character associated with the sapidity of the Muscadet region.

Points of Interest

The Vinet family were one of a dozen producers to begin exporting Muscadet to the U.S. nearly 40 years ago. They have never stopped challenging themselves and evolving. The Maléco started out as a small side project for local sale less than 10 years ago, and only recently became available in America. Hand-riddling at the family estate and two years on the lees without dosage, Maléco showcases the terroir of the area in a dazzling, vivacious fashion.

Domaine St. Martin
Muscadet Sèvre & Maine Sur Lie

Melon de Bourgogne (Melon B)

The Saint Martin Domaine in Château Thébaud represents the wine of Laurence Vinet along with her Husband Gérard. Saint Martin Muscadet stands tall with elegance and a pleasant fruit quality, aromatics of peach, melon, and citrus balance with a pleasant herbal note of verbena, finishing with a dash of salinity. With a little more body than the Domaine de la Quilla, the elegance is expressed in the finish with good fruit and sapidity.

Points of Interest

Laurence and Gérard Vinet have been making wine together for decades. When they first got married, Gérard had the Domaine de la Quilla, and Laurence had 9 hectares at Domaine Saint Martin in Chateau Thébaud. They decided to vinify the two domaines separately to showcase the different soils expressed from the two distinct areas. We are glad they did, both wines offer a different take on the Melon de Bourgogne grape from two acclaimed cru villages.
Clos de la Houssaie
Muscadet Sèvre & Maine AOC

Melon de Bourgogne (Melon B)

Impeccably dry and complex, this wine showcases the greatness attainable for the Melon B grape in this unique terroir. Flavors of dried tropical fruits, citrus, and orchard fruits, evolving with age to express notes of dry, candied fruit. At the core, the minerality is salty and savory, indicative of the terroir and long lees aging. A long and persistent finish offers up many subtle and nuanced flavors.

Points of Interest

Clos de la Houssaie is a walled vineyard of 0.7 hectares and was submitted for Grand Cru status in the 30s. Considered one of the great locations in the entire Muscadet region, this wine has the potential to age a lifetime. Released from the winery 5 years after the vintage, only about 300 cases are produced. The contact with the yeast for two years acts as a natural preservative allowing this wine to age slowly and gracefully.
