DOMAINE CORDIER
Fuissé, Burgundy

Bourgogne Blanc “Jean de la Vigne”
Bourgogne Blanc AOC

Chardonnay

From a single, high-elevation rocky vineyard, this wine is surprisingly complex and layered for a Bourgogne Blanc. With fruit flavors of peach, cherry plum, orange zest, and Mediterranean herbs, the palate has a dusty minerality, finely structured with a youthful fruit sensation and a lengthy finish.

Points of Interest

From one vineyard on rocky schist soils, this high-elevation site sits just above the Premier Cru hill in Fuissé. In the village of Leyne, it is too high on the hill to be a part of the classified region. Aged in large neutral oak and fermented with the wild yeast in oak, this is a Bourgogne wine that punches well above its weight and price point. A high-quality Chardonnay at an exceptional value.
Saint-Véran “En Faux”
Saint-Véran AOC

Chardonnay

From a vineyard of 1.5 hectares comes a Chardonnay with presence and personality. Low yields in the vineyard produce expressive aromas of toasted almond integrating nicely with fruit aromas of peach, apricot, apple, and cooking spice. On the palate there is a touch of butter with an underlying minerality and freshness.

Points of Interest

Great quality wines always start with outstanding fruit. With pending Demeter biodynamic certification expected for the 2024 vintage, Cordier is a leader in the region for progressive viticulture and canopy management. Like all his wines, this old-vine fruit is fermented with wild yeast in large wooden vats and moved to barrels with gravity.
Viré-Clessé “Vieilles Vignes”
Viré-Clessé AOC

Chardonnay

With a meticulous grape selection from organically farmed vineyards the old vines of Viré-Clessé produce a bone-dry wine with beautiful fruits and flowers, like apple blossom, honeysuckle and acacia. The palate is balanced with a fine line of acidity joined by quince and mango skin flavors lining the rich but laser focused finish.

Points of Interest

Christophe is helping to raise the prestige of the Mâconnais to international acclaim for fine wine. With less than 600 cases produced, these tiny parcels of old-vines have been carefully selected over the decades to showcase the best of the Viré-Clessé terroir. Fermented in open, neutral oak vats and moved by gravity to 350-500 liter neutral barrels for further aging.
Pouilly-Fuissé “Vieilles Vignes”
Pouilly-Fuissé AOC

Chardonnay

This is Cordier’s best known wine with just 1,300 cases produced. A deep wine with fruit flavors of Meyer lemon, nectarine, and orchard fruits. On the palate a chalky minerality with delicate oak and butter notes are balanced by a vivacious energy and freshness. Domaine Cordier is producing some of the finest examples of Chardonnay in the Mâcon region.

Points of Interest

Old-vines between 60-80 years from many different parcels in both Fuissé and Vergisson are plowed by horse except for the most rocky of vineyard sites. Careful parcel selection and meticulous manual canopy management put Christophe’s wines on the highest level. Fermentation with wild yeast and aging in neutral wood allow complex flavors to develop nicely with age.
Les Vignes Blanches
Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru

Chardonnay

The aromatics and fruit from this premier cru bottling are delivered with finesse. Elegant citrus and orchard fruits are vibrant, and the energetic pallet is medium-full, with notes of hazelnut. The finish is long with good acidity that will maintain structure for years to come. Comparable to more expensive Chardonnays from the great sites of the Cote du Beaune.

Points of Interest

Cordier’s, Les Vignes Blanches, sits directly above and west of the village of Fuissé, high up on the steepest part of the east facing premier cru slope. Fermented with wild yeast in open-top oak vats before being moved to 350-liter barrels by gravity and aged an average of 12 months (20% new oak it bountiful vintages). Hand harvested; less than 800 cases produced.
Les Reisses
Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru

Chardonnay

With bright citrus, there is lush lemon and green lime notes along with orchard fruits balanced perfectly by layers of minerality and earthy white mushroom. The weight on the pallet is full but fresh with delicate oak and cream notes. The finish is long with a balance of acidity and a weight that lingers.

Points of Interest

From just one, 0.32 hectare parcel between 900-1100 feet, with a windy east facing slope and soils so rocky they can’t use the horse drawn plough. Fermented with wild yeast in open-top oak vats before being moved to 400 & 500-liter barrels by gravity and aged an average of 12 months (20% new oak it bountiful vintages). Hand harvested; less than 300 cases produced.
Les Ménétrières
Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru

Chardonnay

Complex layers and aromas of Meyer lemon, nectarine, and orchard fruits balance perfectly with a vibrant minerality. The weight on the pallet is dense but fresh with delicate oak and citrus cream notes. The finish is orchestral, a symphony of flavors and textures that blend seamlessly into perfection. The “Batard-Montrachet of the South”.

Points of Interest

From less than 1 hectare, on 2 parcels between 900-1200 feet, with an east facing slope of dense fossiliferous limestone and clay soils. Les Ménétrières is Cordier’s top climat from the nine different bottlings of 1er Cru wines produced at the domaine. An average of 12-16 months in 350-liter barrels (20% new it bountiful vintages) on the lees with limited batonnage.
