Ruchè
Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG
Ruchè
The winery is named after the old cottage on the property. “La Cascinetta” means, the little house. Owner Valentina Bortolin and her partner, Giancarlo, personally see to every stage of production from the organically farmed vineyards to vinification and bottling. Ruchè is an aromatic red grape with intense aromatics of raspberry, herbs, cooking spice, and dried flowers, in which rosehip prevails. The palate is lush with great persistence, and the finish is dry with floral spice.
Points of Interest
In the hills of Castagnole Monferrato, just outside the town of Asti, the area recieved DOCG status in 2010, bouncing back from near extinction in the 70s. This rare and expressive grape is one of the most exciting varieties making a comeback in Italy today. Locally it was a wine reserved for special occasions and was little known outside of the region. Today, there is a renaissance of beautiful wines made with the Ruchè grape.
