Weingut Burg Ravensburg is one of the ten oldest wineries in the world. It was first documented in 1251, when Cistercian monks from nearby Maulbronn Monastery, carrying winemaking traditions from Burgundy, planted this corner of the Kraichgau. The estate’s guiding philosophy has not changed much since: hand harvesting, spontaneous fermentation, and a deep respect for terroir. It was acquired by the Heiler-Jacklin family in 2009, and they have brought new energy to this storied estate, from overseeing its conversion to EU certified organic and biodynamic farming to utilizing drones to minimize tractors in the vineyards. Their 13th-century castle is surrounded by three Grosse Lage vineyards, all of which are monopoles of the estate.
